Honeywell 621-9938R Serial I/O Module

The 621-9938R is a redundant serial I/O module manufactured by Honeywell for the IPC 620 programmable controller system. It controls serial I/O card file racks and provides serial link communication interface capabilities when paired with the 621-9939 Serial Link Module (SLM). Designed with redundant processing channels, it maintains uninterrupted field I/O data transfers across high-availability industrial PLC control architectures.

Redundant Architecture and System Integration

The module manages serial communication pathways between local processor racks and remote or secondary serial I/O expansion chassis. In redundant IPC 620 control setups, the 621-9938R collaborates directly with the Model 621-9939 SLM to establish deterministic, fail-safe serial link connections across dual card files, ensuring smooth takeover in the event of a primary communication channel fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What primary role does the Honeywell 621-9938R module serve in an IPC 620 system?

A: It controls the serial I/O card file chassis and provides structured serial link management between processor racks and expansion I/O files.

Q: Which companion module is required to establish serial link communications with the 621-9938R?

A: The 621-9938R interfaces directly with the Honeywell Model 621-9939 Serial Link Module (SLM).
