Product Overview

The IS200SSCAH2AGD is a Serial Communication I/O Terminal Board designed and manufactured by General Electric as part of the Mark VI series. This Simplex Serial Communication Input/Output (SSCA) terminal board supports up to six communication channels. Each channel can be configured to transmit RS-232C, RS-485, or RS-422 signals.

The board is compatible with the PSCA I/O pack, which connects to the controller via Ethernet and plugs into a DC-37 pin connector.

Installation

  • The SSCA board mounts on a DIN-rail using a sheet metal carrier and a plastic insulator mount.

  • The assembly is also designed to bolt directly into a cabinet.

  • The SSCAH2 board includes a 48-terminal right-angle header compatible with a variety of commercially available pluggable terminal blocks.

  • Typically, #18 AWG shielded twisted pair wiring is used.

  • The external mounting bracket for the I/O cable shield can be supplied by either the customer or GE.

  • The E1 and E2 mounting holes are designated for chassis ground connection.

  • A shield ground connection must be connected to one of the SCOM terminals (37-48).

Operation

  • Each of the six serial communication channels features six connection points on the SSCA terminal board: four signal lines (A-D), a signal return (RET), and a shield common (SCOM).

  • The RET terminal is specifically used for RS-232C return.

  • The signal order on the box terminals, from left to right, is: SCOM, A, B, C, D, RET.

  • Each serial channel’s six signals are grouped adjacently.

  • Viewing the bottom set of terminals from left to right, channels 5, 4, and 1 are positioned respectively. The top set of terminals holds channels 6, 3, and 2 in left-to-right order.

  • For RS-422 or RS-485 usage, termination resistors must be installed at either end of the transmission line.

  • Selectable termination resistors for each pair of signal lines are available and controlled by jumpers JP1A and JP1B, toggling the resistors between signals A-B and C-D.

  • Jumpers are set by default to disconnect the termination resistor.

  • The relationship between termination jumpers and serial channel signals is clearly marked on the SSCA board.

Characteristics

  • Number of Channels: 6

  • Maximum Drops in RS-422 or RS-485 Systems: 8 drops max

  • Size: 15.9 cm (height) x 10.2 cm (width)

  • Technology: Surface-mount

  • Operating Temperature: -30 to 65 °C

Diagnostics

  • The PSCA I/O pack interrogates the JA connector on the terminal board, which includes an ID device.

  • This read-only chip stores the serial number, board type, revision number, and J connector location.

  • A hardware incompatibility fault is generated if the I/O processor detects a mismatch when reading this ID chip.
