Product Overview

The IS220PRTDH1B is an RTD (Resistance Temperature Device) Input Pack designed and manufactured by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe Series distributed control system. This pack interfaces one or two I/O Ethernet networks with an RTD input terminal board. It includes a processor board shared by all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and an acquisition board dedicated to thermocouple input functions.

Functional Description

  • Supports simplex operation only.

  • Powered via a three-pin power input and a DC-37 pin connector that connects directly to the terminal board.

  • Features dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors for output.

  • Equipped with LED indicators for visual diagnostics.

  • Handles up to eight RTD inputs on the pack; associated TRTD terminal boards support up to 16 RTD inputs.

Compatibility and Control Modes

The number of I/O packs in a signal path defines the control mode:

  • Simplex: Single I/O pack with one or two network connections.

  • Dual: Two I/O packs with one or two network interfaces.

  • TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy): Three I/O packs, each with one network connection.

The PRTD provides galvanic isolation for the TRD input circuit, requiring specific transient protection on the terminal board. The TRTDH1D board version includes filtering compatible with the PRTD’s standard scan rate. For fast scan rates, the TRTDH2D board provides reduced filtering to maintain performance. Incompatibility with earlier TRTD board revisions will trigger a warning but cause no physical damage.

Processor Features

  • The processor board is paired with an acquisition board dedicated to the I/O pack’s function.

  • On power-up, a soft-start circuit increases voltage to the processor board.

  • Local power supplies activate sequentially, disabling the processor reset.

  • After self-tests, the processor loads application code specific to the I/O pack/module from flash memory.

  • The processor verifies the board ID, acquisition board, and terminal board compatibility.

  • Ethernet communications are established via DHCP using the terminal board’s unique ID.

  • Once initialized, the processor programs on-board logic and runs the application.

  • Supports operation from one or two Ethernet inputs with simultaneous active network paths, enhancing fault tolerance.

  • Ethernet ports auto-negotiate speeds between 10 MB/s and 100 MB/s, and support half/full duplex modes.

Auto-Reconfiguration

This feature enables automatic reconfiguration of I/O packs upon replacement, without manual intervention. The controller detects new I/O packs and automatically downloads the correct configuration file, updating bootloaders, firmware, and parameters as necessary to match the controller’s settings.

Analog Input Hardware

  • The RTD terminal board provides eight three-wire RTD inputs to the PRTD board.

  • Each RTD, grounded or ungrounded, receives a 10 mA DC multiplexed excitation current.

  • RTDs can be placed up to 300 meters (984 feet) from the turbine I/O cabinet, with a maximum two-way cable resistance of 15 Ω.

  • The pack’s A/D converter samples signals and excitation currents four times per second in normal mode and 25 times per second in fast mode.

  • Sampling timing is synchronized with the power system frequency.
