IS420ESWBH1A Ethernet Switch

The IS420ESWBH1A is a 16-port Ethernet IONet Switch (10/100Base-TX) manufactured by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe Series, designed for use in GE Distributed Control Systems.

GE’s Industrial Ethernet switches (ESWA - 8-port, and ESWB - 16-port) deliver the performance and reliability required for real-time industrial control applications. These switches are deployed throughout control system I/O networks to ensure consistent and dependable reception of controller outputs by I/O modules.

Distributed I/O Modules

Each I/O module consists of three main components:

• Terminal Board

• Mounted inside the cabinet

• Two types: S and T

• Provides terminal blocks for I/O wiring, mounting hardware, input isolation, and protection

• Terminal Block

• Interface for wiring connections

• I/O Pack

• Connects to the terminal board via a J-port connector

Both types of terminal boards include:

• Terminal blocks for easy I/O wiring

• Mounting hardware for secure installation

• Input isolation and protection features

• Connectors for I/O packs

• Unique electronic ID for identification

I/O Packs

• Processor Board and Data Acquisition Board
  Each I/O pack contains a common processor board and a data acquisition board tailored for the specific connected device.

• Digitizes I/O variables

• Executes algorithms

• Communicates with the main controller

• Provides fault detection using specialized hardware and software running on the CPU board

• Transmits fault status to controllers for appropriate handling

• Supports input transmission and output reception over both network interfaces (if connected)

• Sends identification messages (ID packets) upon request, containing:

• Temperature Monitoring

• Equipped with a temperature sensor accurate within ±2°C (±3.6°F)

• Temperature data is accessible in the system database and can trigger alarms if needed
